I had a total knee replacement at the Redditch Alexandra Hospital. Dr Shahid was very attentive and clear in his descriptions and instructions. The Surgery was conducted under a spinal block and the anaesthetist staff were extremely reassuring. The operation and post operative conditions were all as described with no problems at all. I was in hospital for 2.5 days and walking unaided in 3 weeks.

I have always endeavoured to remain a fit person and taken good care of myself. Following an injury to my knee/meniscus I had been advised by a prominent Worcester Royal clinician, initially, that an arthroscopy procedure would not make "much of a difference". ..and I "was of an age" that meant I was not a priority! I became slightly depressed AND gained over 2 stones in weight due to immobility. My world shrank. Mr Shahid arrived like a breath of fresh air: he seemed to think the very opposite- it was likely to have a significant benefit.... Following excellent care and a brief procedure I recovered well, steadily increased my mobility, and now, just a few months later, enjoy a very active life. I am well: I am regaining my original level of fitness, shedding pounds.... and optimistic. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Mr Shahid and his excellent team.

Only met Mr Shahid once before surgery, as he was new to hospital and I'd been given an appointment with him as my consultant had a long waiting list. Very friendly and explained I could go with him or wait longer for Mr Aslam, I felt comfortable to have my surgery with him, and suggested would be done by October. Mr Shahid did suggest I search on NHS website for he's experience, saying he'd just come back from Toronto. Next day had my pre op at Redditch and got home to a phone call saying I had an appointment the following Wednesday for knee replacement at Kidderminster hospital Having already had my other knee done I knew what would happen, all going well I got out of bed the following day and home on day 3. All was great when had dressing removed, so pleased didn't have staples/clips just internal stitches and glue, happy lady !!! I have now reduced all pain killers, done Physio at Malvern hospital which I loved as Mandy is a friendly lovely lady. Today I had my check up with Mr Shahid and all is great, scar is healed and very neat as I'm only 52 years old, so important for the summer. 8 weeks later I'm now ready to return to work I can only praise every one who has looked after me from both Kidderminster/Worcester hospitals as my experience has been amazing. I really don't have any negative points, as I value all the care I received.

Having met a few arrogant and aloof consultant doctors, Mr Shahid, was a breath of fresh air. He listened carefully, took all of my symptoms into account (not just the easy to pigeon-hole ones) and gave me pragmatic options for my worn hip joint condition. Highly regarded.
